11 Dead, 4 Injured As Bolero Falls Into Canal In UP’s Gonda; CM Yogi Announces ₹5 Lakh Compensation

In a tragic road accident in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda district, 11 people lost their lives and four others sustained injuries after a Bolero vehicle overturned and fell into a canal. The victims were travelling to offer holy water at the Prithvi Nath Temple when the incident occurred.

According to officials, the group was on its way from Sihagaon in the Motiganj police station area to the Prithvi Nath Temple in Khargupur when their vehicle lost control and plunged into the Saryu canal. The accident took place early in the morning.

Locals who witnessed the vehicle falling into the canal immediately informed the police and village authorities. The Itiyathok police team quickly reached the site and launched a rescue operation, retrieving the bodies from the water. The deceased included men, women, and children.

In total, there were 15 people in the Bolero—all of them residents of the Motiganj area. Four survivors, including the driver, were rescued and rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

Taking cognisance of the incident, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and directed officials to provide financial assistance of ₹5 lakh each to the families of those who died in the accident.

Gonda District Magistrate Vineet Jaiswal confirmed the details of the rescue. “On receiving the information, local residents and police teams began the rescue operation. Eleven bodies were recovered, and four individuals were rescued alive. All survivors have been admitted to the CHC for medical treatment,” he said.

He added that postmortem procedures were being conducted at the District Hospital and that the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) had dispatched officials to oversee the rescue, relief, and medical support operations.

The state government has also assured continued support to the families affected by this heartbreaking accident.
