Heavy rains lashed various parts of Uttar Pradesh yesterday. At least 40 people, including women and children, have been killed in lightning strikes in various parts of the country.
At most, 14 people were killed in Prayagraj district. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has announced compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the victims.
The Uttar Pradesh government has also announced a subsidy for owners of livestock that have died in the rains.
Similarly, 20 people were killed in a lightning strike in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan on July 10 during heavy rains.
The Indian Meteorological Department has forecast the onset of southwest monsoon in Delhi, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan in the next 24 hours.
