Protesters Suddenly Turn Violent in Sydney Park and Mahal Areas
In Nagpur, Maharashtra, a protest was organized by members of the Bajrang Dal demanding the removal of the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The demonstration took place yesterday near the Chhatrapati Shivaji statue in the Mahal area.
During the protest, rumors spread on social media that the demonstrators had burned copies of the Quran, the holy book of Islam. These allegations sparked outrage among the Muslim community.
As a result, a large number of Muslim protesters gathered in various parts of Nagpur, including Mahal, Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, and Sitabuldi Park. They took to the streets to voice their demands.
Suddenly, the protest turned violent in the Sydney Park and Mahal areas. Protesters started pelting stones at police officers deployed for security and set vehicles on fire. This escalated tensions in the region.
To control the situation, the police used tear gas and carried out baton charges to disperse the violent crowd. Four people were reported injured in the clashes.
Similar instances of violence were also reported in Kotwali and Ganeshpeth areas. Due to these incidents, Nagpur has been placed under high alert, and additional police forces have been deployed across the city.
Meanwhile, Bajrang Dal leaders have denied the allegations against them. They stated that they had only burned an effigy of Aurangzeb and had nothing to do with the alleged Quran burning.
