Higher Allocation for Tamil Nadu in 100-Day Employment Scheme – Central Government’s Clarification

During the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha, MP Kanimozhi raised concerns regarding the pending funds for Tamil Nadu under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). She stated that Tamil Nadu was still waiting for the release of the pending amount.

In response, Union Minister Chandrasekhar Bemmassani clarified that Tamil Nadu had already been allocated ₹7,300 crore in the current financial year. He further stated that this was more than what was allocated to Uttar Pradesh in the previous financial year.

He pointed out that Tamil Nadu, with a population of 7 crore, had received over ₹10,000 crore, whereas Uttar Pradesh, with a population of 20 crore, had received only around ₹10,000 crore.

Therefore, the Union Minister emphasized that there was no discrimination in fund allocation, dismissing any allegations of bias.
