Massive Scam Under the Pretext of Transforming Sanitation Workers into Entrepreneurs – Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai’s Allegations Against Congress Leader
Tamil Nadu BJP President K. Annamalai has raised serious allegations against Tamil Nadu Congress President Selvaperunthagai, claiming that a large-scale scam has been orchestrated under the guise of transforming sanitation workers into entrepreneurs. He also questioned whether the ruling DMK government was complicit in this alleged corruption.
In a recent statement, Annamalai pointed out that the Tamil Nadu government had announced a scheme where sanitation workers would be given contracts through the Chennai Metro Water Board and the Directorate of Municipal Administration, enabling them to undertake government projects. As part of this initiative, a ₹524 crore contract was issued for a period of seven years.
Suspicious Loan Disbursements – Signs of Corruption?
Annamalai revealed that, under this scheme, loans were granted to 54 beneficiaries through the Kanchipuram Central Cooperative Bank and 33 beneficiaries through the Chennai Central Cooperative Bank to purchase modern sewage disposal vehicles.
He further detailed the suspicious financial transactions:
- Between August 12 and August 19, 2024, loans of ₹65 lakh each were sanctioned for 54 individuals from the Kanchipuram Central Cooperative Bank.
- On the very same day of opening their bank accounts, ₹65 lakh was credited into each account.
- The beneficiaries were made to sign two blank cheques, and immediately, the funds were withdrawn.
- Despite seven months passing since the loan disbursement, not a single rupee has been repaid.
- Additionally, after the loan was issued, no further transactions have taken place in these accounts.
Who Are the Actual Beneficiaries?
Annamalai questioned whether the supposed loan recipients were genuinely sanitation workers. He pointed out that if these loans had been sanctioned through the NSFDC (National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation) or NAMASTE (National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem) schemes of the Central Government, the beneficiaries’ identities would have been thoroughly verified.
However, by channeling these loans through cooperative banks, the government has seemingly avoided proper scrutiny, raising concerns about whether the money actually reached sanitation workers.
Involvement of Gengreen Logistics & Management Pvt. Ltd
Annamalai further alleged that the ₹524 crore sewage disposal contract, which was supposedly awarded to sanitation workers, was actually being carried out by a private company named Gengreen Logistics & Management Pvt. Ltd.
He stated:
- This company was registered on June 7, 2023, and had signed an agreement to handle the projects meant for sanitation workers.
- One of the directors of Gengreen Logistics, Veeramani Radhakrishnan, is the nephew of Tamil Nadu Congress President Selvaperunthagai.
- Moreover, the registered office address of this company matches the office address of Selvaperunthagai, raising further suspicion.
Did the DMK Government Know About This?
Annamalai posed a critical question: Was the DMK government unaware of this massive misappropriation, or were they complicit in it?
He further asked:
- How can funds meant for sanitation workers be diverted to a private company linked to a political leader?
- Did the DMK government deliberately approve these financial transactions to benefit its political allies?
- If no financial transactions have taken place in the beneficiaries’ accounts after receiving the loans, who ultimately took the money?
Rising Public Concerns
Following Annamalai’s revelations, several concerns have emerged among the public:
- Will the Tamil Nadu government respond to these allegations?
- Are public funds being systematically looted by politicians under the guise of welfare schemes?
- Who will be held accountable for this massive scam?
The people of Tamil Nadu now expect a transparent investigation and a clear response from the DMK government and the Congress party. As the controversy intensifies, all eyes are on whether the ruling administration will take action or attempt to suppress the issue.
