Devendra Kumar, a 62-year-old retired army personnel, lived with his wife Mayadevi (44) and their daughter in Bhagadoorpur near Ballia. After dedicating most of his life to serving the nation, Devendra was living a peaceful retired life — or so it seemed. One day, he suddenly went missing, and his disappearance sparked a police search.
What followed was shocking. In a nearby field, a plastic bag containing human limbs — hands and legs — was found. Police suspected foul play and launched an intense investigation. The case took a dramatic turn when Devendra’s daughter expressed suspicion about her mother, Mayadevi.
Initially refusing to confess, Mayadevi eventually admitted to a gruesome crime. She revealed that she had been having an illicit relationship with a man named Anil Yadav. When Devendra confronted her and questioned her about this affair, she conspired with Anil to eliminate him.
The couple allegedly murdered Devendra Kumar, then dismembered his body into six pieces — hands, legs, head, and torso — to prevent identification. Under the cover of darkness, they scattered the remains in various locations.
Police arrested Mayadevi for this horrifying act. Anil Yadav, who had gone on the run, was also being pursued. While conducting a vehicle check in the Baghari Khara area, police encountered Anil. He reportedly fired at them in an attempt to escape, but police retaliated. A bullet struck his leg, and he was arrested and later admitted to a hospital for treatment.
This case is not just about a murder. It’s about how deep betrayal within a family can go. Mayadevi had the choice to separate legally from her husband if she was unhappy.
