Uddhav Shiv Sena Criticizes Modi Government for Ceasefire with Pakistan

The Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) has strongly criticized the Indian government’s decision to agree to a ceasefire with Pakistan after recent border clashes. In an editorial published in the party’s official mouthpiece Saamana, the party alleged that the Modi government squandered a historic opportunity to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and realize the dream of an “Akhand Bharat” (Undivided India) as envisioned by freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

According to the Saamana editorial, “Savarkar dreamt of an India stretching from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to Rameswaram, from Sindh to Assam. But the Modi government lost the golden opportunity by halting the military operation through a ceasefire agreement. Henceforth, Modi has no right to use Savarkar’s name in politics.”

The editorial argued that the Indian Army was in a strong position and that if the military engagement had continued for at least four more days, India could have captured significant regions such as PoK, Lahore, and Karachi. It further alleged that U.S. President Donald Trump’s intervention forced the ceasefire and robbed India of a strategic victory. “At the very least, India should have taken back PoK and encouraged the secession of Balochistan from Pakistan before the ceasefire,” the editorial claimed.

The article also accused the Modi government of using nationalism and the name of Savarkar for political gain without taking concrete steps toward fulfilling nationalist goals. It criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who had earlier spoken about the vision of Akhand Bharat, for failing to act decisively when the opportunity presented itself.

Adding to the criticism, Shiv Sena MP and Saamana executive editor Sanjay Raut said, “When Prime Minister Modi addressed the nation after the conflict, he did not speak like the victorious leader of a nation. Modi and Amit Shah have only managed to break political parties within India, not Pakistan.”

The comments by Uddhav Shiv Sena come amid heightened political tensions in India, where issues related to national security, territorial integrity, and foreign policy often become matters of fierce debate. The party’s statement appears aimed at positioning itself as a true nationalist force while accusing the Modi-led BJP government of being all talk and no action.

This development has stirred debate in political circles, with supporters of the government arguing that a ceasefire was necessary to prevent escalation and international fallout, while critics feel that it reflects a lack of strategic will.

By framing the ceasefire as a lost opportunity, Uddhav Shiv Sena has reignited discussions about the long-standing demand in some Indian political and military circles to reclaim Pakistan-occupied territories. Whether this rhetoric translates into political capital or further divides the nationalist vote remains to be seen.
