9 Amrit Bharat Railway Stations in Tamil Nadu: Inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi
Railway stations have been constructed with eco-friendly green protection plans.
Under the ‘Amrit Bharat’ scheme, renovation work of 508 railway stations worth ₹24,470 crore has been ongoing for a year. In the Southern Railway zone, more than 40 railway stations are being upgraded.
Today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated 103 fully completed railway stations across the country via video conference from Delhi. In Tamil Nadu, 9 Amrit Bharat railway stations were inaugurated: Chennai Parangimalai, Samalpatti, Chidambaram, Thiruvannamalai, Mannargudi, Srirangam, Virudhachalam, Polur, and Kulithurai.
These stations have been built with facilities like roof plazas, food courts, and children’s play areas, similar to city centers. The railway stations feature separate entry and exit gates, multi-level parking facilities, escalators, executive lounges, waiting areas, travelators, and amenities friendly to differently-abled persons.
These stations serve as integrated multi-modal connectivity hubs and act as economic development centers for their respective regions. They have been constructed with electric traction and green protection plans to maintain environmental beauty. Additionally, the Mahe Amrit Bharat railway station in the Union Territory of Puducherry was also inaugurated.
