Parliament Monsoon Session Day 1: Centre Agrees to Opposition’s Call for Op Sindoor Discussion
The Monsoon Session of Parliament is expected to begin on a tense note this Monday, with Opposition parties set to raise the recent Pahalgam terror incident, demanding explanations from the government, along with highlighting the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
Meanwhile, the government is preparing to deliberate on several legislative matters, including bills related to GST, mining, sports, and other sectors.
In addition, the report from the Parliamentary Select Committee that examined the proposed Income Tax Bill, 2025, is scheduled to be presented in the Lok Sabha on Monday — a move that could initiate progress on the long-awaited revamp of India’s direct taxation system.
On Sunday, the central government convened an all-party meeting to seek cooperation and ensure orderly proceedings in both Houses. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju appealed to both the treasury and opposition benches to work in tandem for the smooth conduct of business.
He affirmed the government’s willingness to engage in discussions on all matters within the framework of parliamentary rules and procedures and confirmed that the Centre is open to holding a debate on significant topics such as Operation Sindoor.
The meeting saw participation from 51 political parties, with a total attendance of 54 leaders.
