Neha Mehta Says She’s ‘Open to Come Back’ to Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah
After Neha Mehta exited the popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, actress Sunayana Fozdar took over the part of Anjali Mehta.
For over a decade and a half, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has remained a fixture on Indian television, consistently delivering comedy and lighthearted stories that have endeared it to a massive audience. Despite its longevity, the series continues to enjoy popularity, thanks to its vibrant ensemble and entertaining narratives. However, several actors have come and gone over time, including Neha Mehta, who won hearts as Anjali Mehta.
In a recent chat with Telly Masala, Neha Mehta, who originally played Anjali Mehta, revealed she’s open to returning to the role. When asked if she misses her co-actors, she said affectionately, “I don’t miss them—they’re always in my heart. When I turn on the channel and the TV, I see them, and they see me.”
Talking about the possibility of rejoining the cast, she remarked, “If Asit (Asit Modi) sir asks me, I’ll do anything for him.” Her words reflected her admiration for the show and its creator.
Neha said she would happily return as Anjali Mehta if her fans wished for it. In the same interaction, she added, “I’ll do anything for my audience. If they ask me to come back as Anjali Mehta, I’ll do it. Anyway, I’m already there in spirit. Getting caught in complications is not my thing—I go with the flow.” Her statement shows her commitment to her fans and her easygoing nature as an artist.
Neha Mehta left Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah in 2020, which took many by surprise. As per her own explanation, the reason was a payment dispute. While speaking with Bombay Times, she said, “I portrayed Anjali in Taarak Mehta for 12 years before leaving in 2020. The payment for my last six months is still pending.”
She went on to say, “After exiting the show, I followed up with them several times about my unpaid dues. I’m not someone who likes to complain… I hope the matter gets resolved soon and I receive what I’ve worked hard for.” Despite these statements, no further resolution has been publicly reported.
