Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway Were Just 15 Minutes Away from Manhattan Tower Where Gunman Killed 4
Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were shooting The Devil Wears Prada 2 near the location of a tragic mass shooting in Midtown Manhattan. The gunman, Shane Tamura, killed four before dying by suicide.
Oscar-winning actors Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were filming scenes for The Devil Wears Prada 2 just 15 minutes away from the Midtown Manhattan skyscraper where a deadly shooting took place on Monday. The cast had been shooting at 1221 Avenue of the Americas and had completed filming at least three hours before gunman Shane Devon Tamura entered 345 Park Avenue, opened fire, and killed four individuals before turning the weapon on himself.
Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs are returning to the screen in the upcoming comedy-drama sequel, The Devil Wears Prada 2. As Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway reprise their legendary roles in the second part of the film, directed by David Frankel, they have already been spotted filming at various locations across New York City.
The horrific incident occurred just a few blocks away. The assailant, who shot and killed four people and later committed suicide inside a Manhattan high-rise, may have been attempting to target the NFL headquarters in the building, believing the National Football League was responsible for brain injuries he claimed to have suffered, according to Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday.
The shooter, identified as 27-year-old Shane Tamura, left behind a note mentioning chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disorder. This note has given investigators the first indication of the possible motive behind the rampage that caused panic in central Manhattan.
The attacker first shot a police officer outside the tower on Park Avenue, then fired multiple rounds inside the lobby, and attempted to proceed towards the NFL offices with a semi-automatic rifle.
“The note stated he believed he was suffering from CTE, a brain condition known to affect those engaged in contact sports. He seemed to blame the NFL for this condition,” Adams told CBS News.
Although Tamura never played in the professional league, reports say he was a standout high school football player in California. As per The New York Times, the note requested that his brain be examined to confirm signs of CTE damage.
The violence triggered a large-scale police operation in the heart of New York City, not far from where, in December last year, a disgruntled gunman shot and killed the CEO of UnitedHealthcare in broad daylight.
New York Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said that Tamura had a history of mental health issues. Former President Donald Trump, reacting on Tuesday, condemned the incident as a “senseless act of violence” perpetrated by a “lunatic.”
