Tamil Nadu pastor used house church as a cover to sexually abuse minor schoolgirls
A 54-year-old pastor, Victor Kamaraj, has been arrested in Thiruvallur for allegedly using his house church to sexually abuse over a dozen female students. Evidence recovered from his phone led to his arrest under the POCSO Act.
In a disturbing development, a 54-year-old religious preacher, identified as Victor Kamaraj, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting over a dozen female students near Chengunram in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruvallur district. The arrest comes amid a rise in sexual assault incidents in the area.
Kamaraj, who ran a church from his home, allegedly used the educational services run by his wife, an anganwadi centre worker. The attacks are said to have taken place during these evening classes for schoolgirls. The victims’ parents filed a complaint, which prompted a police investigation.
Sources indicate that a crucial piece of evidence was recovered from Kamaraj’s cell phone, which allegedly contained information confirming sexual harassment of students. Following this discovery, the police swiftly arrested Kamaraj under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was later produced in court and is currently lodged in Puzhal jail.
The arrest is the latest in a series of sexual assault incidents in the Tiruvallur area. Recently, an Assamese youth was arrested in a separate case for abducting and sexually assaulting a woman in a neighbouring village.
Amid these concerns, a few days later, another horrific incident took place in the Kanagamma Chattiram area, where the expansion work for the Chennai-Tirupati National Highway is underway. A youth working on the highway project allegedly abducted and attempted to sexually assault a 17-year-old girl who was walking along the road. Her screams were heard by local villagers, who bravely intervened. The attacker tried to flee, but was chased, caught by villagers, and later handed over to the police.
