Alexander Isak Set To Rejoin Newcastle United Training Camp Amid Transfer Drama: Report
Alexander Isak is all set to return to the United Kingdom this week and join Newcastle United’s training camp after a brief solo training period at his former club, Real Sociedad.
The Swedish forward had been undergoing individual training at the Zubieta facility in Spain’s Basque Country, but according to The Athletic, he is now preparing to report back to Newcastle’s base.
However, the majority of the senior squad, including head coach Eddie Howe, are currently on the club’s pre-season tour in Asia, which includes a headline clash against Tottenham Hotspur in Seoul, South Korea.
Newcastle Declines Liverpool’s £110m Offer
Isak’s return to training comes in the middle of major developments in his ongoing transfer saga.
As first reported by The Athletic, Newcastle United recently turned down a formal £110 million offer from Liverpool, who have shown strong interest in acquiring the 24-year-old striker this transfer window.
Earlier in July, Liverpool had made an informal inquiry, expressing readiness to increase their bid up to £120 million, but did not match Newcastle’s asking price — reportedly around £150 million.
Despite the substantial offer, Newcastle remained firm. Multiple sources, including BBC Sport, have confirmed that Liverpool are unlikely to raise their bid, viewing the initial offer as their final one.
Isak Wants Move, Newcastle Keen To Retain Him
While Newcastle are trying to retain Isak — including offering him a fresh contract that features a release clause applicable from next summer — the player’s stance has reportedly not changed. Sources suggest that Isak has long expressed a desire to explore a move away from St James’ Park.
Indicating his intentions further, Isak was not part of the squad that travelled to Asia for pre-season matches. Instead, he chose to maintain his fitness away from the limelight in Spain while continuing talks concerning his future.
Newcastle United will feature in the UEFA Champions League this season for the first time in 20 years — an exciting prospect for most players, though it may not be sufficient to convince Isak, who is said to be keen on joining a more prominent European side.
The Magpies have also relied on senior players in the dressing room to try and influence Isak’s decision, but with little success thus far.
