‘Won’t Tie Rakhi…’: Andhra Woman Leaves Suicide Note to Brother, Holds Husband Responsible
In a deeply saddening incident from Andhra Pradesh’s Krishna district, a 24-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide after months of harassment by her husband and in-laws, just six months after her wedding.
The woman, identified as Srividya, worked as a lecturer in a private college and had married Rambabu, a village surveyor, only half a year ago. However, according to a suicide note she left behind — addressed to her brother — Srividya was subjected to severe emotional and physical abuse soon after the marriage.
In the letter, she stated that Rambabu began harassing her barely a month into their marriage. She wrote that he would come home drunk every night and physically assault her. One instance mentioned in the note involved Rambabu humiliating her in front of another woman, allegedly calling her “worthless.” She also described violent episodes, including being punched and having her head slammed against the bed.
The continued abuse reportedly pushed her to a breaking point. In the note, Srividya squarely blamed her husband and in-laws for her suffering and urged that they “should not be spared under any circumstances.”
Tragically, in her final words to her brother before the upcoming Rakshabandhan festival, she wrote:
“Hey brother, take care. I may not be able to tie you a Rakhi this time.”
The police are investigating the incident, and further action is expected based on the contents of the note and the circumstances surrounding her death.
