‘Punched Her Neck, Twisted Her Hair’: Indian Mother Recounts Daughter’s Racial Assault in Dublin

The girl’s mother revealed that the incident took place on Monday, August 4, while the six-year-old was playing with friends outside their residence.

In yet another case of racial violence against Indians in Ireland, a six-year-old Indian girl was allegedly assaulted by a group of children. As per reports, the young girl was punched on the face and hit in her private parts, while the attackers hurled racial slurs at her, saying “go back to India.”

While speaking to the Irish Mirror, the girl’s mother said that the incident occurred while her daughter was playing outside the house with other children on Monday.

Six-Year-Old Attacked, Called ‘Dirty Indian’

“She told me five children hit her on the face. One of the boys forcefully pushed a bicycle wheel against her private area, and she was in severe pain. They used foul language and called her ‘Dirty Indian, go back to India’,” the mother told The Irish Mirror.

The mother, who recently received Irish citizenship, has been residing in Ireland for nearly eight years and works as a nurse.

According to the Dublin-based publication, the incident took place when the mother went inside briefly to feed her ten-month-old infant. She added that when her daughter returned home, she was visibly shaken, unable to speak, and traumatised.

The nurse, who has been living in Ireland for about eight years, said she later saw the group of boys responsible for the attack. However, she mentioned that the boys simply stared back at her in a defiant manner.

“I saw the group later. They were just staring at me and laughing. They knew I was her mother. The boys looked around 12 to 14 years old, and they were still loitering nearby,” she said.

The Indian woman has registered a formal complaint with the Garda police. However, she stated that she is not demanding punishment for the boys but wants them to be given counselling and proper guidance.

Rising Racist Attacks on Indians

There has been a noticeable increase in racist incidents targeting Indians in Ireland. In July alone, at least three such attacks were reported.

In Tallaght, a group of around ten teenagers assaulted an Indian man. The group allegedly stabbed him multiple times on the face while he was on his way to the local temple.

In another incident in Dublin, an Indian youth in his twenties was attacked at a tram station. As per reports, he was shoved, beaten, and stabbed on the face using a screwdriver.

In a separate case also in Dublin, Dr Santosh Yadav, a senior data scientist, was attacked by six teenagers from behind while returning to his apartment.
