Archana Puran Singh Responds to Kapil Sharma’s ‘Getting Paid to Laugh’ Joke
Archana Puran Singh shared that her sons Aryamann and Ayushmaan have also started making similar jibes at her, imitating Kapil Sharma’s gags.
Archana Puran Singh and Kapil Sharma share a warm and easy rapport, often reflected in their on-stage banter. Archana, known for her sharp comic timing, has witnessed Kapil’s journey from Comedy Circus to Netflix’s The Great Indian Kapil Show. A few years ago, the comedian humorously quipped that Archana gets paid only to laugh on the show. As it struck a chord with the audience, this remark has turned into a recurring joke on the programme.
The actress addressed Kapil’s popular gag and admitted that even she is unsure of her exact role in the comedy show. Archana said, “Now it’s become a joke. Kapil cracks jokes about everything, people take it seriously. I don’t, because I know the name of the game is to make a punch, get a laugh, and move on.”
The 62-year-old further explained, “Yes, I am paid to judge a comedy show, which is what I originally did with Comedy Circus. Now, I am paid not to judge Kapil’s show, but to be a celebrity guest. I don’t even know what my role is. Kapil just keeps joking. How am I paid to laugh? In a way, I’m paid to enjoy the show, and because my enjoyment is loud and spontaneous, it comes across as if I’m paid to laugh.”
Archana added that her sons Aryamann and Ayushmaan have now picked up the habit of teasing her in the same way, imitating Kapil’s banter. “Then my kids pick up on that and make similar jokes at me. In my vlogs, you can see I’m laughing even when I’m not paid to do so. It’s just a joke. I go along with it because I find it very funny,” she said.
She also spoke about her bond with Kapil, recalling their first meeting on Comedy Circus, where Kapil was one of the contestants among ten others. “Our association began then. Who knew it would come this far? It was built on mutual respect,” Archana remarked.
On the work front, Archana Puran Singh is preparing for Rajkummar Rao’s debut production Toaster, which will premiere directly on Netflix. She will also be seen in The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 3.
