India’s Women Bag Bronze at Asia Rugby U20 Sevens; Hong Kong, China Lift Titles
India’s Under-20 women’s rugby team, led by skipper Bhumika Shukla, clinched a historic bronze medal by defeating Uzbekistan 12–5 at the Asia Rugby U20 Sevens, held at the Rajgir International Sports Complex.
The Young Tigresses delivered a gritty performance, blending solid defence with sharp attacking bursts to edge past a determined Uzbek side. Roared on by the home crowd, India’s tries came at crucial junctures, with Shukla’s leadership and defensive organisation playing a pivotal role in sealing the win. The bronze marks another significant milestone for women’s rugby in India.
Champions Crowned
In the men’s final, Hong Kong stunned favourites Sri Lanka with a dominant 33–0 victory, displaying blistering pace and precision at the breakdown.
The women’s title went to China, who beat Hong Kong 31–14 in a clinical display of quick passing and decisive finishing.
In other results, Malaysia secured third place in the men’s event by beating China, while India’s men finished fifth after overcoming Kazakhstan.
