PM Modi Unveils 184 Newly Built Type-VII Multi-Storey Flats for MPs

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated 184 newly built Type-VII multi-storey flats for Members of Parliament in New Delhi. Situated at Baba Kharak Singh (BKS) Marg in the heart of the capital, the flats offer MPs a prime location advantage, especially given their close proximity to the Parliament House Complex.

“Today, I had the privilege of inaugurating this residential complex for my colleagues in Parliament. The four towers have been named Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly — after four prominent rivers of India. Some may have reservations about naming a tower ‘Kosi’. They may not see it as a river, but instead through the prism of the Bihar elections,” the Prime Minister remarked during the ceremony.

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs & Power Manohar Lal, Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs & Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju, and several other dignitaries attended the event. The Prime Minister also interacted with the Shramjeevis (workers) involved in the project.

Designed to be self-reliant, the complex is equipped with all modern facilities to meet the functional needs of MPs. The project incorporates eco-friendly features and has been built to meet the GRIHA 3-star rating as well as the National Building Code (NBC) 2016 guidelines. These green measures aim to promote energy efficiency, renewable energy use, and proper waste management.

Using advanced monolithic concrete technology with aluminium shuttering, the construction was completed on time while ensuring high durability. The complex is Divyangjan-friendly, highlighting the commitment to accessibility and inclusive design.

Each unit provides ample space for both residential and official purposes, including dedicated office areas, staff quarters, and a community centre. The buildings are earthquake-resistant and comply with modern safety standards, with a strong security system in place for residents’ protection.

The project was undertaken to address the shortage of suitable housing for MPs. Given the limited availability of land, the focus has been on vertical housing solutions to maximise land use and keep maintenance costs low.
