Chennai Grandmasters 2025 Day 6: Unbeaten Vincent Keymer Holds Arjun Erigaisi To Retain Lead, Dronavalli Registers First Win
The top clash between leader Vincent Keymer and challenger Arjun Erigaisi ended in a draw on Tuesday, allowing the German grandmaster to maintain his lead in the Chennai Grandmasters 2025 after six rounds.
Keymer, who remains unbeaten, holds a full point lead over Indian top seed Erigaisi, with just three rounds remaining. The German sits on 4.5 points, while Erigaisi has 3.5 points after their draw.
In other Masters results, American Liang Awonder secured a victory over Pranav V, and Dutch grandmaster Jorden Van Foreest defeated Indian talent Nihal Sarin. Vidit Gujrathi drew against Anish Giri, who has now recorded six draws in as many games. The longest game of the day was between American Ray Robson and Karthikeyan Murali, which lasted over five hours and ended in a draw.
Awonder’s win moved him level with Erigaisi in second place, trailing sole leader Keymer. Giri, Gujrathi, and Van Foreest each have three points.
In the Challengers section, Pranesh M halted Abhimanyu Puranik’s winning streak with a convincing victory. Adhiban B also notched a win against Diptayan Ghosh. Aryan Chopra suffered a defeat at the hands of Leon Luke Mendoca, who along with Pranesh, now leads the Challengers table with 4.5 points each.
Harika Dronavalli, after a tough start, secured her first win of the tournament against fellow contender Vaishali R, who is still searching for her maiden victory in her hometown event. The only draw in the Challengers category came between Iniyan Pa and Harshavardhan GB.
