‘Tragic Chapter of History’: PM Modi Pays Tribute to Partition Survivors, Celebrates Their Resilience
On Partition Horrors Remembrance Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday paid heartfelt homage to the millions impacted by the 1947 partition, acknowledging both their suffering and their strength to rebuild.
Describing the partition as a “tragic chapter of our history,” Modi praised the courage of those who endured “unimaginable loss and still found the strength to start afresh.”
In a message posted on X, the Prime Minister wrote:
“India observes #PartitionHorrorsRemembranceDay, remembering the upheaval and pain endured by countless people during that tragic chapter of our history. It is also a day to honour their grit… their ability to face unimaginable loss and still find the strength to start afresh.”
He emphasised that many who experienced the violence and displacement refused to let hardship define their futures.
“Many of those affected went on to rebuild their lives and achieve remarkable milestones. This day is also a reminder of our enduring responsibility to strengthen the bonds of harmony that hold our country together,” Modi added.
Partition Horrors Remembrance Day serves both as a commemoration of the suffering endured in 1947 and as a call to preserve unity and national harmony for future generations.
