Alaska Summit: Trump, Putin Kick Off Key Talks On Ukraine With ‘Peace’ As Main Agenda

US President Donald Trump met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska on Friday (local time) for a high-stakes summit that could decide the future course of the Ukraine conflict.

Trump described the meeting as a step towards ending the war, even hinting that a territorial adjustment might form part of a possible deal. At the same time, he cautioned that the talks could end within minutes if Putin refuses to compromise. Trump also expressed confidence that both Russia and Ukraine would eventually come to terms for peace.

The summit is being seen as a crucial moment in Washington’s ongoing efforts to broker peace between the two nations. While Putin praised Trump’s mediation attempts, he has so far shown no signs of backing down, with Moscow intensifying its offensive against Ukraine — a major point of concern for the US President.
