Trump Rates Meeting With Putin 10/10, Says ‘We Agreed On A Lot Of Points’

US President Donald Trump described his historic meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska as “10 out of 10”, saying the two leaders agreed on several points, although no final deal has been reached.

Speaking to Fox News’ Sean Hannity, Trump said,

“We had a very good meeting today, but we’ll see. You have to get a deal. We agreed on a lot of points. I want to see people stop dying.”

Trump expressed satisfaction that Putin publicly acknowledged that the Ukraine war would not have occurred if he were president in 2022 instead of Joe Biden. He also criticised Biden’s handling of the crisis, saying Ukraine could not possibly agree to a deal with Russia because the former president “handed out money like it was candy,” referring to billions in US military aid.

The Alaska summit, held at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, saw Trump and Putin meet on a red carpet and spend over three hours in closed-door talks, followed by a joint press conference. While many points were agreed upon, “very important” issues remain unresolved, Trump said, adding:

“But I think President Putin would like to solve the problem. And it was a problem that should have never happened.”

Next Steps: Putin-Zelenskyy Meeting

Trump indicated he would now help set up a meeting between Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, saying the onus is on Zelenskyy to make progress.

“They’re going to set up a meeting now between President Zelenskyy and President Putin. Myself, I guess. I didn’t ask about it. Not that I want to be there, but I want to make sure it gets done,” he said.

He stressed that Ukraine must agree to a peace settlement, urging Zelenskyy to “make a deal.” No official response has yet come from Kyiv, which has previously ruled out ceding territory to Moscow and is seeking security guarantees backed by the US.

Outcome Of The Summit

Though the summit produced no apparent breakthrough on Ukraine, both leaders described the talks as productive. Putin said he expects Ukraine and European allies to accept the US-Russia negotiation constructively and use the agreements as a starting point for resolving the conflict and restoring pragmatic Russia-US relations.

Analysts view the summit as a diplomatic win for Putin, enabling Russia to assert itself on the global stage and showcase that years of Western attempts to isolate Moscow have not succeeded.
