The party, led by Tamil Nadu People’s Development Association chief Janpandian, engaged in a heated argument with the forest department at the Manimutthar check post, demanding permission to go in additional vehicles to meet the Mancholai tea plantation workers.
Controversy erupted after an attempt was made to evict the workers of the Mancholai tea estate in the Western Ghats near Ambasamudram in Nellai district before the expiry of their lease. In this case, the party led by Tamil Nadu People’s Munnetra Kazhagam President Jan Pandian, who met the workers and heard their grievances, tried to go in 10 vehicles.
However, the forest department gave permission to only three vehicles. Due to this, there was an argument at the Manimuthar check post. Later, the authorities gave permission to go in 7 vehicles.
