Armstrong’s body has now been kept at the Corporation School in Perampur for public tribute. Armstrong’s body is taken in a procession to Pottur, 21 km from Perampur. More than 2,000 people including party officials, volunteers and relatives participated in the funeral procession.
Armstrong’s brother, who witnessed the murder, which caused great shocks in Tamil Nadu, has spoken about how the murder happened and the murderers. He said:-
There will be a 7 o’clock. I was in the temple. Then suddenly I heard a noise from the street. At first I thought I was hearing something else. But the next moment, when I heard the sound of Anna running away.. Are you cutting your brother.. Are you cutting your brother.. Are you cutting Armstrong, I immediately ran fast.
I ran towards Armstrong shouting “Hey..Hey.” Then 3 people came running towards me with knives and sickles.. The first person who came tried to cut me with the sickle. I am healed. Miss it. I got away with cutting the second person. Then I stumbled and fell down. Then the 3rd person cut me on the head with a sickle.
Another one cut my back and ran away. I’m bleeding too. But hold on to Armstrong regardless. I said why wake up.. wake up.. But he just made a sound like um.. um.. Bleeding was profuse. After that I also fainted. This is what he said.
Journalists then questioned whether those arrested were real criminals. He replied, “Where did I see them? I don’t remember their faces. All I saw were knives and sickles. I didn’t even see what they were wearing. I don’t remember. All I wanted to do was to see Armstrong. Within 10 seconds it happened.” Everything happened,” he said.
