Yellow alert for 4 districts in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu has been receiving good rains for the past few days and the rains will continue in the coming days, according to the Meteorological Department. Especially today, yellow alert has been issued for 4 districts including Coimbatore. Also, the Meteorological Department has shared some important information about the prevailing climate in Chennai.

In the last 24 hours it has rained in a couple of places in Tamil Nadu. Dry weather prevailed in Puduvai and Karaikal.

Chinnakallar (Coimbatore) has received the maximum rainfall of 70 mm in Tamil Nadu in the last 24 hours. Districts including Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Nellai and Kanyakumari have received significant rainfall. Nagapattinam recorded the maximum temperature of 36.9° Celsius in the last 24 hours. Similarly, Erode recorded a minimum temperature of 19.0° Celsius.

Heavy rain expected: A press release from the Meteorological Department on the climate in the coming days said, “Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puduvai and Karaikal today. Nilgiris and Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni and Dindigul due to change in speed of westerly winds.” Heavy rain is likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of the district.

Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely to occur at a few places in Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal tomorrow on July 15 and 16. Nilgiris and hilly areas of Coimbatore, Tirupur, Theni and Dindigul districts are likely to receive heavy rain at one or two places. From 17th to 20th July, light to moderate rain may occur at a couple of places in Tamil Nadu, Puduwai and Karaikal.

CHENNAI CLIMATE: The sky will be generally cloudy for the next 24 hours for Chennai and its suburbs. Light to moderate rain with thundershower is likely at a few parts of the city. The maximum temperature is likely to be around 31 – 32° Celsius and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26 – 27° Celsius.

Warning for Fishermen: Cyclonic winds with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and intermittent speed of 55 kmph are likely to occur in the coastal areas of Tamil Nadu from today to July 18 in the Gulf of Mannar and adjacent south-eastern coastal areas.

In the Bay of Bengal today and tomorrow, cyclonic winds with a speed of 45 to 55 km per hour and an occasional speed of 65 km per hour are likely to occur in the Central West Bengal and adjacent Central East Bengal and South Bengal, Andhra coastal areas. Cyclonic wind speed of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional speed of 55 kmph is expected over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal, other parts of Central Bay of Bengal, North Andaman Sea.

Warning Needed: Cyclonic winds with a speed of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional gusts of 65 kmph are expected over central West Bengal and coastal Andhra Pradesh on July 16 and 17. Cyclonic winds with a speed of 35 to 45 kmph and occasional gusts of 55 kmph are expected over South, Middle East Bay of Bengal, North Andaman Sea.

In the Arabian Sea regions, cyclonic winds of 45 to 55 kmph and occasional gusts of 65 kmph are likely to prevail over Southwest Arabian Sea, Karnataka coastal areas and adjoining Middle Eastern Arabian Sea from today to July 17.

Fishermen are advised not to venture to Kerala coastal areas, Lakshadweep and adjoining South East Arabian Sea areas during these days as cyclonic winds of 35 to 45 kmph with occasional gusts of 55 kmph are likely,” it said.
