Cannot order re-examination of NEET…Supreme Court

The Supreme Court said that a decision can be taken only if NEET malpractice is established.

The entrance exam for undergraduate medical, dental, AYUSH and related courses was held on May 5. This exam, which was written by 24 lakh students, raised huge controversies across the country like never before.

In this examination conducted by the National Examination Agency, various complaints such as tampering and leakage of question papers arose during the examination itself. The results of this examination were released on June 4, amid turmoil among the students. Then many more irregularities were exposed.

In particular, an unprecedented 67 students scored a full score of 720. This includes 6 students who appeared in the same center in Ariana. Similarly, grace marks were given to 1,563 students for various types of time loss during the examination. This also resulted in many students getting full marks.

Due to the large amount of irregularities exposed, students across the country protested against the NEET exam. Opposition parties also jumped into the fray in support of them. On the other hand, successive cases were filed in the Supreme Court against these scams. It had requested to cancel the NEET exam and conduct a re-examination. This case of malpractice came as a shock to the central government. In this context, cases related to NEET entrance exam irregularities came up for hearing in the Supreme Court today.

In this case, the Supreme Court said that it cannot order re-examination of NEET. According to this, Chief Justice Chandrachud said that if it is proved that the question paper leak has completely affected the NEET exam, then the exam can be cancelled.

Also, the Supreme Court said that the trial of the NEET exam is given importance as it is a matter related to social disorders, and lakhs of students are waiting for the trial of today’s case, and the reasons should be given as to how the question paper leak affected the entire exam.

Earlier it was argued by the petitioner that we did not ask to conduct re-examination for all the candidates and it is enough to conduct re-examination for only one lakh 8 thousand students who passed and the report of IIT Chennai should not be accepted.
