BJP state president Annamalai has insisted that in the appointment of new lecturers, qualified people who have worked as honorary lecturers for more than five years should be appointed.
In the X report published by Annamalai in this regard,
There are more than 7,300 honorary lecturers working in government colleges across Tamil Nadu.
All of them are being paid a package wage on the basis of contract for 11 months per annum. All these Honorary Lecturers are academically qualified as College Assistant Professors recommended by the University Grants Committee.
Many of them have written special exams and got job opportunities. While the salary of permanent employees is around Rs.80,000, the package salary for honorary lecturers selected on the basis of formal qualification is only Rs.20,000 to Rs.25,000.
In this situation, for the last three months, there have been reports that even the first month’s salary for the Honorary Lecturers has not been paid yet. The Tamil Nadu government has a practice of delaying the first month’s salary for three or four months in every academic year.
In Tamil Nadu, most colleges function with honorary lecturers. In many colleges, as there are no heads of departments in various departments, they are carrying out their work as honorary lecturers, keeping in mind only the welfare of the students.
In many colleges, they are the ones who do all the work in the college along with teaching. But the wages paid to them are very meager. Therefore, the DMK government should immediately implement the University Grants Committee’s recommendation to pay Rs.50,000 per month to the honorary lecturers and without any delay, the salary of the honorary lecturers should be paid at the end of each month at the end of the respective month. Annamalai has also urged the DMK government to appoint qualified persons who have worked as honorary lecturers for more than five years as per Ordinance No. 56, in the appointment of new lecturers.
