Agricultural organizations across the country are planning to hold a tractor rally on August 15.
A group of farmers from six states namely Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka, Punjab, Aryana and Uttar Pradesh met the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, at the Parliament House premises in Delhi today. This group consisted of 12 agricultural leaders.
During this meeting, Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal, former Punjab Chief Minister Saranjit Singh and Punjab Congress President Amrinder Singh were present. Similarly, other party leaders like Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjit Singh Ajla, Dharamvir Gandhi, Amar Singh, Deepender Singh Hooda and Jai Prakash were also present.
In this meeting, they briefed Rahul Gandhi about the problems faced by farmers in their states. Farmers were not allowed to enter the Parliament House premises before this meeting. This caused a commotion for a while.
When Rahul Gandhi said about this, we invited the farmers to come in. But they were not allowed to enter. They are farmers. So, that might have happened. He said that you should ask the Prime Minister himself about the reason for this.
In this case, Jagajit Singh Thallewal, one of the farmers, told reporters that the central government has failed to fulfill its promises. It is imperative to implement the Swaminathan report. He said that we will continue our rally towards Delhi.
At the meeting, they have been demanding revision of the Minimum Support Price (MSP), their long-standing demand, and asked Rahul Gandhi to introduce an individual bill for it.
Based on the Swaminathan Commission, agricultural organizations across the country have expressed their desire that the government should provide a purchase guarantee to protect farmers from falling crop prices and bring in MSP for this.
Emphasizing this, in the last 2020 and 2021, lakhs of farmers marched towards Delhi on tractors. Due to this, traffic on major roads of Delhi was affected. The case made international headlines and created a stir.
Fierce clashes broke out between the farmers and the police who had been protesting for several months in Delhi. Following this, the government withdrew 3 controversial agricultural laws.
After this, a few months before the Parliamentary Lok Sabha elections, the farmers again took part in the protest last February. As a result, the BJP has lost ground in many important states. Had to face failure.
In this context, a 5-year contract based MSP. Even when the government announced the concession, the farmers rejected it.
In this situation, the agricultural organizations announced last Monday that they will burn the effigy of Prime Minister Modi. They are also planning to organize a tractor rally across the country on August 15, Independence Day.
