Audi Amavasi is very important Amavasi Why..!?

Adi Amavasi is a very important new moon. It is believed that our forefathers are visiting our house to see us on this day and to accept our prayers, sacrifices, donations and dharma. Thus, it is necessary for us to follow some specific rules so that we get the blessings of the pitrus who come to our home.

Adi Amavasi is the best day to get rid of pitru dosha from ourselves. It is believed that due to this, all the auspicious things that are delayed in our house like marriage and child birth will take place without hindrance and we will also get the blessings of our ancestors.

Aadi Amavasi Worship:

The new moon day of 2024 falls on Sunday 04th August. It is very special that Aadi Amavasi falls on a Sunday belonging to the Sun Lord, the planet responsible for paternal relationships and pitrus. Bathing in the holy rivers and performing Pitru Darpanam on this day is very auspicious. We know what to do on Audi Amavasi. At the same time, it is important to know what things should not be done. By knowing and doing the dos and don’ts we can reap the full benefits of ancestor worship.

Don’ts on Aadi Amavasi:

  • Do not golam at the door on Aadi Amavasi.
  • Do not clean the house, kitchen and puja room in the morning on Aadi Amavasi.
  • Do not sleep long in the morning. Everyone in the house should wake up between 5 to 6 am and take a bath.
  • Even if you go to the water bodies and give darpanam, you should not light the images of your ancestors at home. In addition to lighting the lamp in the puja room, one should place an agal in front of the ancestral image and light the lamp by pouring ghee.
  • Only those in the house should eat the food prepared for the ancestors. Do not give to others.
  • Do not invite outsiders to your home and feed them. If you are feeding like that then you should feed only after 12 noon.
  • Do not put a single leaf while making a prayer for the ancestors. Two leaves should be placed only.
  • Pitrus should not place photos here and there. Keep the army in one place.
  • After serving rice to the crow, it should be fed to the pitrus. Do not deploy troops before that.

Women must not do:

  • Do not cut nails on Aadi Amavasi.
  • Women should not spread their heads.
  • The forehead should not be without kumkum and thiruneiru.
  • Women should cook only after bathing. Do not enter the kitchen without taking a shower.
  • Aadi Amavasai Padayal is done to get the blessings of our ancestors so we should not cook in nighty clothes. It is better to wear traditional clothes like sari and cook and light lamps.

To donate:

5 different items should be donated to 5 people on Adi Amavasi. One kg of rice, one kg of pulses, one kg of jaggery, half a kg of ghee, cashews, grapes and cardamom should be donated to five people on that day. These five gifts can be given to anyone. It is believed that even if one fails to give darpanam to the pitrus on the new moon day of the year, or if something goes wrong while giving darpanam on the new moon day, the resulting pitru dosha will be removed by giving these five gifts on the new moon day.
