Akash Chopra has expressed his displeasure that Subman Gill’s 14 runs in the first ODI against Sri Lanka cost India the victory.
The first ODI between India and Sri Lanka ended in a draw. Batting first in the match held in Colombo, Sri Lanka scored 230 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 50 overs.
Batting towards the target, India were all out for 230 runs and the match ended in a draw. Indian team’s leading batsmen were dismissed at crucial times which caused setbacks.
However, former player Akash Chopra has expressed his displeasure that Subman Gill, who bowled 1 over in the match, gave away 14 runs which caused India to lose the victory. Akash Chopra said that Sri Lanka, who were expected not to cross 200 runs, gained momentum using that over.
He also said that if Subman Gill had not bowled that over, Sri Lanka would not have crossed 200 runs. So, telling Gill that Captain Rohit made a mistake by giving that over, he spoke about it as follows:-
“One mistake shifted the momentum to Sri Lanka. Subman Gill’s over bowled 14 runs. I wondered why India did that. Because of that, Sri Lanka gained momentum. Without that, Sri Lanka would not have played 50 overs. Sri Lanka should have been all out before 150. Otherwise. Even Sri Lanka should not have gone beyond 170-190 runs. Due to that, India were forced to chase 230 runs in the end,” he said.
