Special Pujas Held at Temples in Tamil Nadu on the Occasion of the Start of the Margazhi Month
The start of the Margazhi month is considered a highly auspicious time for spiritual practices in Tamil Nadu. During this month, people sing the Thiruppavai hymns in devotion. Special pujas, Thiruvathirai Darshanam, and various rituals were held at many temples across Tamil Nadu to mark this sacred occasion.
Kanyakumari District – Munchirai Shiva Temple
At the famous Munchirai Shiva Temple in Kanyakumari district, special pujas were held for the Thiruvathirai Nakshatra Arudra Darshanam. A large number of devotees participated in the 1008 Ilnir Abhishekam, followed by special poojas. The ritual concluded with Deepa Aradhanai, during which devotees were given darshan.
Nellai – Sivandiyappar Temple
At the Sivandiyappar Temple in Ambasamudram, Nellai district, children sang the Thiruppavai hymns as part of the worship. Following this, special pujas were conducted, and devotees were offered prasad.
Thiruvallur – Kalyana Varadaraja Perumal Temple
In Thiruvallur, the Kalyana Varadaraja Perumal Temple began its Thiruppavai Seva on the occasion of the Margazhi month’s start. Both men and women from different places participated in singing the Thiruppavai hymns and offered worship to Lord Perumal.
Salem – Venkatasalapathi, Azhagirinathar Swami, and Pandurangnathar Temples
At the temples of Venkatasalapathi, Azhagirinathar Swami, and Pandurangnathar in Salem, special Thirumanjanam rituals were held to mark the beginning of the Margazhi month. After these rituals, a large number of devotees attended the darshan of the deity.
Dindigul – Kottai Mariamman Temple
At the Kottai Mariamman Temple in Dindigul, a special Thiruvillaku Pooja was performed. A large number of women participated in singing the 1008 Namavalis and lighting the lamps. The ritual was followed by special poojas, and devotees were blessed with Deepa Aradhanai.
