Kaliyammal, who was a key administrator in the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) and served as the State Women’s Wing Coordinator, has officially announced her resignation from the party today. For the past few months, she had been inactive in party affairs due to dissatisfaction with the party’s leadership, particularly with Seeman, the party’s chief coordinator.
Kaliyammal has been a significant figure in strengthening NTK’s women’s wing and has actively participated in various political issues and women’s rights movements. However, recent internal decisions within the party, certain policy changes, and Seeman’s leadership approach are said to have caused her distress, leading to her disengagement from party activities.
Speculation about her exit intensified after an invitation for a recent event in Manappattu, Thoothukudi district, referred to her as a “social activist” instead of her usual designation as the party’s women’s wing coordinator. This raised doubts about her continued association with NTK, and soon, there were expectations of an official statement regarding her resignation.
Confirming the rumors, Kaliyammal formally announced her decision to quit the party this morning. Her departure has triggered discussions within NTK, as she played a crucial role in mobilizing women within the party.
Regarding her exit, Seeman responded by saying, “Naam Tamilar Katchi is a large movement. Anyone is free to join or leave the party at their own will.”
Now, questions arise about the impact of Kaliyammal’s resignation on the party’s women’s wing. Additionally, there is curiosity about her next political move—whether she will join another party, launch her own political venture, or continue as an independent activist.
