In Maharashtra, India, the pharmaceutical company Avio Pharmaceuticals manufactures pain relief tablets that are designed to alleviate pain by acting on the brain and spinal cord, relaxing nerve activity. These tablets contain specific chemical compounds that have a nerve-calming effect.
Due to their low cost, these tablets have reportedly been illegally exported to West Africa, where certain groups are suspected of misusing them as narcotic substances. As a result, the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) has conducted an investigation and issued a directive to all states to halt the production and distribution of these tablets immediately.
The chemical components in these painkillers, when consumed in excessive amounts, can impair cognitive functions, slow down brain activity, and even induce a state of intoxication. This has raised concerns that drug trafficking networks may be misusing these medications as recreational drugs and distributing them illegally.
Following these revelations, Indian pharmaceutical regulatory authorities are now intensively reviewing the company’s manufacturing processes, supply chains, and export records. Additionally, medical stores and hospitals that have already stocked these tablets have been instructed to return them to prevent further misuse.
Since such misuse poses significant health and social risks, government agencies, healthcare experts, and law enforcement authorities are collaborating to take strict actions and curb this issue effectively.
