BJP’s Signature Campaign in Support of the Three-Language Policy – Aiming for 1 Million Signatures Across 9 Districts

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Vice President K.P. Ramalingam has announced a campaign to collect one million signatures in support of the three-language policy across nine districts, including Karur, Namakkal, and Salem.

As part of this initiative, a signature campaign was held at the Rasipuram bus stand in Namakkal district, organized by BJP. K.P. Ramalingam inaugurated the event by signing the petition himself.

Speaking to the press, he said,

“We are conducting this signature campaign as an awareness initiative to correct Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s misunderstanding about the three-language policy. We expect massive support from the people of Tamil Nadu.”

Why is BJP Supporting the Three-Language Policy?

BJP and other national organizations support the three-language policy for the following reasons:

  • Learning multiple languages will enhance students’ job opportunities.
  • Proficiency in English, Tamil, and Hindi will allow Tamil Nadu students to compete for jobs across India.
  • It will help bridge the linguistic gap between different states.

BJP’s Plan – How Will They Collect 1 Million Signatures?

BJP has planned to conduct this campaign in 9 key districts:

  1. Karur
  2. Namakkal
  3. Salem
  4. Erode
  5. Trichy
  6. Coimbatore
  7. Tiruvannamalai
  8. Villupuram
  9. Dharmapuri

The campaign will be conducted in bus stands, marketplaces, educational institutions, and other public areas where BJP members will collect signatures from citizens.

BJP Lawyer Files a Case in the Supreme Court

To implement the three-language policy, BJP lawyer G.S. Mani has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Supreme Court.

  • In Tamil Nadu, currently, only Tamil and English are taught in schools.
  • The three-language policy was proposed in the National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
  • Since the Tamil Nadu government has refused to implement it, a legal case has been filed against the state government.

Reactions from Political Parties – Opposition from DMK & Congress

The three-language policy has faced strong opposition in Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President Selvaperunthagai has condemned BJP’s actions, stating:

“Tamil should be the primary language in Tamil Nadu. The three-language policy is imposed by North India and is unacceptable.”

Similarly, DMK Minister K.N. Nehru stated:

“The three-language policy will never be implemented in Tamil Nadu. The DMK government is strongly opposed to it.”

The Future of the Three-Language Policy in Tamil Nadu

The debate over the three-language policy remains a contentious issue in Tamil Nadu.

  • BJP is pushing for its implementation, while DMK and other regional parties strongly oppose it.
  • It remains uncertain whether this policy will be enforced or if opposition will keep it at bay.
  • Public support will be a key factor in determining the success of this signature campaign.

The three-language policy continues to be a major political and educational issue in Tamil Nadu.
