32-year-old Ranya Rao, from Chikmagalur, Karnataka, is a popular Kannada film actress. She made her debut opposite Sudeep in the film “Manikya”, directed by Kannada actor Kicha Sudeep. In Tamil, actress Ranya Rao played the female lead in the film Vaaga, opposite actor Vikram Prabhu.
Actress Ranya Rao is the adopted daughter of Ramachandran Rao, an IPS officer with the rank of DGP in Karnataka. Ramachandran Rao, an IPS officer, is working in the Housing Corporation of the Karnataka Police.
Actress Ranya Rao, who frequently travels internationally, has come under the secret surveillance of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence. Ranya Rao has traveled to Dubai four times in the last 15 days alone. After going to Dubai for the fourth time, actress Ranya Rao landed in Bengaluru on an Emirates flight from Dubai last Monday night.
Ranya Rao was searched by the Revenue Intelligence Department officials for wearing more than the permitted amount of jewelry. The intelligence officials found that she was wearing a lot of gold jewelry and had gold bars hidden in her clothes.
Ranya Rao, who had been smuggling gold every time she went to Dubai, was caught red-handed. 14.8 kg of gold was seized from her. Following her arrest, she was taken to the DRI headquarters in Bengaluru for questioning.
During the initial investigation, Ranya Rao, who claimed to be the daughter of a DSP, said that the Bengaluru Metropolitan Police would come to take her home. But no one came. After that, she was produced before the Economic Offences Court. The court has ordered her to be remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
Meanwhile, Karnataka DGP Ramachandra Rao, who has said that he is estranged from his daughter, has said that he has no information about what she is doing.
Ramachandra Rao said that Ranya Rao married architect Jatin Hukkeri four months ago and has not come to meet him since then. He also explained that neither he nor his family knows anything about Ranya Rao and her husband’s profession.
Ramachandra Rao, who has said that his adopted daughter has humiliated him, has said that action will be taken if Ranya has violated the law.
There are also suspicions that Ranya Rao may be part of a large smuggling gang smuggling gold from Dubai to India. Investigations have been intensified to find out who Ranya Rao was in contact with and who involved him in gold smuggling.
In this context, it is said that senior officials of the Karnataka Police Department and political figures may be behind Ranya Rao’s gold smuggling.
