President Thirelapathi Murmu has approved an amendment to the law to provide additional powers to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Union Home Ministry has proposed some amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019, which will give additional powers to the Lieutenant Governor. President Thirelapathi Murmu has approved this.
Following this, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has gazetted the amended regulations under Section 55 of the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization Act, 2019.
On the other hand, the informed sources said that the revision has been made only in official duties and nothing else has been changed.
With the upcoming elections to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, the President’s assent to the legislative amendment giving additional powers to the Lieutenant Governor has gained significance.
