Tamil Nadu BJP state president Annamalai has strongly condemned the arrest of BJP members in the state.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he stated that two days ago, members of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MNMK), an ally of the DMK, burned an effigy of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Lalpet, Cuddalore district.
Despite this act of disrespect against a national leader and an attack on the democratic values of India, the Tamil Nadu police failed to take immediate action against those responsible. He criticized the delay in taking legal action against the culprits.
In response, BJP members, led by Cuddalore East District BJP president Agni Krishnamoorthi, staged a protest demanding that the perpetrators be brought to justice. However, instead of arresting those who burned the Prime Minister’s effigy, the Tamil Nadu police arrested over a hundred BJP members who participated in the protest.
Annamalai denounced the DMK government’s double standards, stating that it was unacceptable for the government to turn a blind eye to an anti-national act while cracking down on those demanding justice. He accused the state government of misusing its authority and suppressing political opposition.
Furthermore, he urged the DMK government to immediately release the arrested BJP members and put an end to its biased and undemocratic actions.
