August Dry Days: Check Liquor Shop Closures in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru
With the festival season underway, authorities in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru have notified dry days during August. On these days, liquor shops, pubs, bars, restaurants, and wine stores will remain closed for 24 hours.
Dry Days in Delhi
The Delhi excise department has ordered consecutive dry days this week. Liquor vends were shut on 15 August (Independence Day) and will again remain closed on 16 August (Janmashtami).
Additionally, all liquor outlets, bars, hotels, clubs, and restaurants will be closed on 2 October (Gandhi Jayanti).
Dry Days in Mumbai
In view of Ganesh Chaturthi, starting 27 August, the Maharashtra government has imposed strict restrictions on liquor sales.
Apart from 15 August (Independence Day) and 16 August (Janmashtami), all liquor shops, pubs, and bars will remain closed on 27 August (Ganesh Chaturthi) and 6 September (Anant Chaturdashi/Visarjan Day).
Authorities may also enforce an additional dry day on 5 September, owing to large public processions. Though private consumption is not banned, alcohol purchase from licensed outlets will not be permitted.
Dry Days in Bengaluru
The Bengaluru administration has also announced back-to-back dry days this week — 15 August (Independence Day) and 16 August (Janmashtami). Liquor sales through shops, restaurants, and bars will be restricted for 48 hours.
Ganesh Chaturthi on 27 August is also likely to be observed as a dry day, with possible additional restrictions during 6 September (Visarjan celebrations).
