Bangladesh Plane Crash: 16 Dead, Over 100 Hurt After Air Force Jet Hits School in Dhaka

Fire Service and Civil Defence confirm at least one fatality in the crash.

Bangladesh Plane Crash: A Bangladesh Air Force F-7 BGI training jet crashed into a school campus in northern Dhaka’s Uttara area on Monday shortly after taking off, resulting in the deaths of at least 16 individuals and injuring more than 100, according to local media sources.

As reported by Bangladeshi news outlet Prothom Alo, the aircraft took off at 1:06 p.m., and the crash occurred shortly thereafter in a residential neighborhood of Uttara. The Fire Service and Civil Defence later confirmed at least one fatality in the incident.

Lima Khan, a duty officer at the Fire Service control room, stated that four injured persons were transported to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) following the crash, which occurred around 1:30 p.m.

Preliminary information suggests that the F-7 BGI aircraft crashed onto the roof of the canteen at Milestone College. Three firefighting units were dispatched and were actively managing the emergency at the site.

“The training jet crashed at Milestone School and College in Diabari. Our team has recovered one dead body. The Air Force rescued four injured individuals and transported them for medical attention,” bdnews24 quoted Lima Khanam, duty officer at the Fire Service Central Control Room, as saying.

The identity of the deceased has not yet been verified. No details regarding the pilots have been released so far.

Deputy Commissioner Mohidul Islam of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Uttara Division confirmed that he was on his way to the crash site after receiving information about the event, as reported by the Bangladeshi news portal.
