Barcelona Duo Fined for Anti-Doping Rule Breach

UEFA has imposed a €5,000 fine each on Barcelona players Lamine Yamal and Robert Lewandowski for failing to report promptly to the anti-doping testing station after their UEFA Champions League (UCL) semifinal against Inter Milan. This match saw Barcelona dramatically exit the competition.

Despite the UCL disappointment, Barcelona enjoyed a highly successful season under coach Hansi Flick, clinching the La Liga title, the Spanish Super Cup, and the Copa Del Rey.

Young Spanish talent Lamine Yamal began the season strongly, having recently led Spain to a UEFA title during the Euros. Throughout the campaign, Yamal impressed with 9 goals and 15 assists in La Liga, alongside 5 goals and 4 assists in the UCL before their exit to Inter Milan. The 17-year-old also starred in Spain’s 5-4 UEFA Nations League semifinal win against France, with his market value rising steadily.

Polish striker Robert Lewandowski topped Barcelona’s La Liga scoring charts this season with 27 goals in 34 matches, second overall only to Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappe.

Barcelona edged out arch-rivals Real Madrid to claim the La Liga crown with 88 points from 38 games, recording 28 wins, 4 draws, and 6 losses. Real Madrid finished second, four points behind, while Atletico Madrid secured third place with 76 points.
