South Asia’s demand for aircraft is projected to grow significantly, with 2,835 new aircraft required by 2043, and India’s role in that will be significant.

Already, Boeing, one of the world’s leading aircraft manufacturers, has revealed its forecast that it will need more than 31,000 pilots and more than 26,000 mechanics in the coming years.

As India’s aviation industry continues to grow, this growth will also require skilled human resources. Training of skilled manpower requires large infrastructure and proper training institutes.
In this case, Prime Minister Modi has launched the Boeing Sukanya project in Bengaluru. The Central Government has launched the Boeing Sukanya scheme to support the entry of more girls from across India into the growing aviation industry.
The program is providing more opportunities for women across India to learn critical skills in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields and train for jobs in the aviation industry.
While inaugurating the state-of-the-art Boeing India Engineering and Technology Center (BIETC) complex on 43 acres, Boeing’s largest investment outside the US, Prime Minister Modi proudly mentioned that 15 percent of India’s pilots are women. It is a surprising fact that it is three times higher than the world average.
Last December, Boeing had hired more than 6,000 Indian workers. Boeing also employs more than 13,000 Indians in its supply chains.
Boeing has increasingly turned to India for aircraft engineering and design development amid troubled US relations with China.
Boeing sees India’s growing passenger aviation market as a major opportunity.
As part of that, last Wednesday, the Boeing Company had announced employment.
In India, 83 posts including 58 engineering posts were reserved for Indians. But only 5 posts were reserved for Chinese.
The fact that almost 19 times more engineering posts are reserved for Indians than in China has surprised many.
Boeing’s relationship with China, which has been strong since 1916, was strained following the 2018 Lion Air crash and the 2019 Ethiopian Airlines crash.
In response to a question in the Parliament, Minister of State for Civil Aviation Muralidhar Mohol said that Air India Express, 25 Boeing 737 Max aircraft, Spicejet 7 aircraft, and newly introduced Akasa Air, 24 Max aircraft, total 56 Boeing 737 Max aircraft are registered and operated in India.
