BSNL to join hands with Starlink – Tata Technologies…

There are reports that BSNL is going to join hands with Elon Musk’s Starlink and Tata Technologies. A news collection about this.

Companies such as Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea are competing in the Indian telecom market. Recently, these three companies hiked mobile data plan rates by an average of 20 percent. At the same time BSNL’s charges are relatively low.

Tariff hikes by private companies increased BSNL’s chances of getting new subscribers.

Around 250,000 customers switched their services to BSNL from other operators through Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service on July 3rd and 4th alone. BSNL also added around 2.5 million new connections to its network during this period.

Already, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and BSNL (BSNL) are working together to bring 4G internet services to more than 1,000 villages across India.

For this, TCS and BSNL have signed an agreement worth USD 50 billion.

It is in this context that the ‘Triumvirate’ of BSNL, Elon Musk’s Starlink and Tata has been formed to compete with Jio, Airtel.

The consortium is expected to bring about a major change in the country’s communication business.

Elon Musk’s Starling had applied to the central government to bring satellite-based internet to India.

Recently, it was reported that the DoT (Department of Telecommunications) is planning to award the crucial Global Mobile Personal Communication by Satellite (GMPCS) license to Starling.

The central government has reportedly given in-principle approval to Starling.

Although Starling still needs a number of regulatory approvals to continue commercial services, it is seen as a major victory after Starlink first applied for a license in 2022.

Starlink’s satellite internet in India can provide internet speeds of up to 300 Mbps. This is much faster than the 94.62 Mbps download and 9.02 Mbps upload speeds for mobile internet and the average 58.62 Mbps download and 50.42 Mbps upload speeds for broadband.

BSNL, Elon Musk’s Starlink and Tata are expected to come together to offer cheaper recharge plans and better coverage through satellite technology.

This is expected to pose a major challenge to telecom companies like Airtel and Jio.
