Canada’s Army Chief of Staff Wayne Eyre is set to retire soon. In this regard, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed Jenny Carignan, a senior female military officer, as the new army chief. With this, Jenny Carignan has become the first female army commander in the history of Canada.
Jenny Carignan, currently Head of Professional Conduct and Culture for the Armed Forces, has served in the military for 35 years. In 2008, she became the first woman in the history of the Canadian Armed Forces to command a combat force unit.
Following that, Jenny Carignan, who led Canadian forces in Afghanistan and Syria, will lead NATO Mission Iraq from 2019 to 2020.
