Cancellation of 30 percent reservation for heirs of Bangladeshi martyrs

The Supreme Court of Bangladesh has canceled the 30 percent reservation for martyrs’ heirs.

30 percent reservation in education and employment was given to heirs of Bangladesh freedom fighter martyrs. Due to protests among students, the Sheikh Hasina government canceled the reservation in 2018.

While a case was filed against this in the Bangladesh High Court, the court confirmed the reservation for the heirs of the freedom struggle martyrs.

Against this, the student organizations spontaneously started protesting. More than a hundred people died in the violence.

In this situation, the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, which heard the appeal case related to seat reservation, canceled the 30 percent reservation for the heirs of the martyrs and said that 93 percent of the vacancies should be filled on the basis of merit.
