Even though the assassination attempt on former US President Donald Trump has failed, the actions of the country’s secret service agency have been questioned. In contrast, the special security team that protects Indian Prime Ministers has received international acclaim.
A news package about it.
The United States Secret Service was established in 1865. The system was originally launched to prevent counterfeiting. Over time, security and investigative work also began to focus.
The U.S. Service Agency, which initially operated under the Treasury Department, now operates under the Department of Homeland Security. Protecting past and present presidents, vice presidents, and their families is a major mission of the Secret Service.
Along with this, it is the secret service agency that supervises foreign heads of state and important personalities and oversees major national events of the country.
As if this is not enough, the agency also investigates financial crimes including counterfeiting, financial fraud and cybercrimes.
Secret Service Agency security officers undergo rigorous training at the James J. Rowley Training Center in Maryland to master investigative techniques. The secret service agency uses various ultra-modern weapons with modern technology for their missions.
However, international statistics say that the United States has the highest number of assassinated presidents, who have been caught in assassination attempts and survived impiously.
But in India, the Special Security Forces are doing a great job and protecting the prime ministers like an eye.
SPG was launched in 1985 following the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in 1984. The Special Intelligence Group (SPG) is an elite security force created to protect the country’s Prime Minister, former Prime Ministers and their immediate families. The force currently has 3,000 men.
Security for the Prime Minister is fraught with challenges. It is not an easy task to protect the Prime Minister in public events like political rallies, campaign rallies and thousands of public gatherings.
Indian special security forces are working very well even though they do not have sophisticated technical facilities like the US.
For example, roadblock protesters blocking Prime Minister Modi’s motorcade caused a significant security lapse.
On January 5, 2022, due to inclement weather, the Prime Minister’s motorcade (convoy) from Bathinda Airport in Punjab was traveling by road to the National Martyrs’ Memorial at Hussainiwala when the Prime Minister’s vehicle, along with his security convoy, got stuck in the middle of a group of protesters for about 20 minutes in the border district flyover town of Punjab. Unable to get stuck. However, the special security team who acted tactfully brought them to the airport safely.
Providing security to Indian Prime Ministers is very challenging. A prime minister, the popularly elected leader of the world’s largest democracy, cannot be expected to isolate himself from the public.
Indian Prime Ministers cannot avoid always interacting with the people. Not only during elections, but also at other times like political rallies and public gatherings, the Prime Minister of India can act in the middle of the crowd.
With all these restrictions, the Special Investigation Team has been doing its duty meticulously, well aware of the attitudes of the Prime Minister of India. In fact the US Secret Service is working on advanced technology. And this is what principals should do. It also dictates how to interact with people. At the same time, one cannot help but admire the SPG’s ability to protect Indian Prime Ministers who have been effective in challenging circumstances.
Improved regulations and new procedures have been developed for the Special Investigation Team under the Ministry of Home Affairs of India.
