CBSE information: Public examinations for class 10 will be conducted twice a year…

The CBSE has released a draft policy for conducting public examinations twice a year for class 10 from the academic year 2026. It has been said that all stakeholders including schools, teachers, parents can express their views on this by March 9. Here is a news collection about it.

Recently, a high-level committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Kendriya Vidyalaya Schools (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalayas (NVS) participated in this consultation meeting.

As per the National Education Policy, the methods for implementing the universal curriculum in the Indian education system were discussed in this meeting.

There is a situation where students have to go to separate coaching classes to face the public examinations of class 10 and 12. To change this, recommendations have been given based on the National Education Policy.

Accordingly, changes are being made in the CBSE public examinations to change the shortcomings in the existing examination system, eliminate exam fear and encourage students to study.

It has also been decided to conduct two public examinations every year. A draft policy has been formulated for this.

In the first phase, it has been announced that public examinations will be conducted twice for class X from the current academic year.

Public examinations will be simplified to primarily test skills and academic abilities.

All students will be allowed to write the public examination twice in any academic year.

They can write the main examination once and, if necessary, an ‘improvement’ examination to increase their score.

Starting from 2026, the first phase of the examination will be held every year from February 17 to March 6. The second phase of the examination will be held from May 5 to May 20.

CBSE plans to conduct the two public examinations for a total of 34 days. Moreover, the entrance exams and practical exams will be conducted only once in the coming years.

Students who appear for the 10th standard public examination twice can obtain the mark certificate in which they score higher as the 10th standard certificate.

Even though the public examinations are conducted twice, questions covering the entire subjects will be included in both the examinations.

It has also been said that the same examination centers will be allotted to students for both the examinations and that the examination fee for both the examinations will have to be paid in advance.

It has been announced that all parties, including schools, teachers and parents, can express their views on this draft policy by March 9.

The CBSE has also stated that the final policy will be formulated based on these views.
