The United Janata Dal has demanded that the central government grant special status to Bihar.

United Janata Dal National Working Committee meeting was held in Patna. In this, Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Jha was appointed as the working president of the party.

Subsequently, a resolution was passed insisting that the central government should grant special status to Bihar. It was also decided in the meeting that the United Janata Dal will continue in the National Democratic Alliance.

In Bihar, the reservation for the backward in education and employment was increased from 50 percent to 65 percent.

While the Patna High Court has banned this, it was decided in the United Janata Dal National Executive Committee meeting to appeal against this decision in the Supreme Court.
