BJP Tamil Nadu State President Annamalai has expressed his gratitude to the central government following the announcement of the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Puliyangudi lemons.
In a statement, he recalled that during a recent public meeting in Tenkasi, he had assured the people of Puliyangudi that the GI tag for Puliyangudi lemons was in progress and that it would be officially announced by the first week of April.
Now that the announcement has been made, it is a moment of great happiness that Puliyangudi lemons have received official recognition for their uniqueness, he stated. He also extended his gratitude to Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, on behalf of the Tamil Nadu BJP for considering their request.
Puliyangudi lemons are renowned for their distinct aroma and flavor. With the GI tag, this variety of lemons will gain international recognition, ensuring better profits for farmers and preventing the sale of counterfeit products in the market.
This official recognition of Puliyangudi lemons will greatly benefit the local farmers, creating new commercial opportunities in both domestic and international markets and contributing to Tamil Nadu’s economic growth.
