Central Minister of State L.Murugan flagged off the express train service between Mettupalayam – Thoothukudi.
Mettupalayam is a world famous tourist destination and a major vegetable export center of the Nilgiris district. But only one train service is running from Mettupalayam to outlying districts. Also, connecting trains from Thoothukudi to Coimbatore and Chennai during the day were stopped during the Corona period.
Aggrieved by this, the people demanded that train services be provided from Mettupalayam to southern districts. In that way, express train service has been started from Mettupalayam to Tuticorin twice a week. Central Minister of State L.Murugan flagged off this train service. Southern Railway has announced that the train will run from Thoothukudi to Mettupalayam on Thursdays and Saturdays at 10.50 pm and the return route on Fridays and Sundays at 7.35 pm.
Similarly, the express train which was running from Mysore to Mayiladuthurai has now been extended to Cuddalore. Central Minister of State L.Murugan flagged off the train by participating in the opening ceremony held at Mayiladuthurai district railway junction. Member of Parliament Sudha, MLAs and many others participated in this.
