Central Minister L. Murugan’s Statement: “PM Modi Scrapped Over 1,500 Obsolete Laws”

Speaking at an event held in Chennai’s Thyagaraya Nagar to mark the Tamil New Year, Central Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L. Murugan made several key political and social remarks.

He began by highlighting a major reform by the Modi government, stating that over 1,500 outdated and irrelevant laws have been scrapped under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership. He said this move was necessary to simplify the legal framework and remove bureaucratic hurdles that were hindering everyday governance.

Murugan also took a dig at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, saying that as the head of the state, he should have extended Tamil New Year greetings to the people. The festival is a cultural identity of Tamils, and not acknowledging it publicly, he said, is a mark of disregard toward Tamil heritage.

Touching upon the rise of digital platforms, he observed that ordinary citizens are now becoming content creators, and that content creation has emerged as a major source of income in India. This digital transformation, according to him, is creating new opportunities and contributing significantly to the economy.

Referring to Article 370, which was abrogated in 2019 by the central government, Murugan said that the move fulfilled the long-standing dream of Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. He stated that integrating Jammu and Kashmir completely with the rest of India was a step toward national unity and equality.

In a strong political statement, he also demanded action against fellow BJP leader and Central Minister Pon Radhakrishnan (Pon Modi), stating that he should be removed from office for making obscene remarks about women. Murugan emphasized that such behavior is unacceptable and contradicts the values of dignity and respect that the government seeks to uphold, especially toward women.
